3. To Clean Or Not To Clean
In my younger (much younger) days, I dabbled in the world of beauty pageants. I did not, however, (much to the chagrin of my husband) win the coveted “Miss Queen of Clean” title. I have two small children, run my own business from home, and do my best to regularly attend the shoe sales at the mall. Keeping a tidy house is just not a huge priority right now. I do however keep a hygienic house. (Well, I wouldn’t advise eating off my kitchen floor – but it’s not unsanitary.) When I was pregnant with my second baby, my Doctor advised me not to clean house using common household cleaners, as inhalation of the cleaning products could harm my unborn baby. Needless to say, I took his advice extremely seriously. I did not clean house...

4. What is the Theory of Multiple Intelligences? Part 1: Biological Basis
Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences is based on the premise that each individual's intelligence is composed of multiple "intelligences," each of which has its own independent operating system within the brain. These intelligences include: verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist. The verbal-linguistic intelligence is the use of both written and spoken language for the purpose of communication. Those possessing the verbal-linguistic intelligence are sensitive to the meanings, sounds, and rhythms of words. They love reading, poetry, tongue twisters, puns, humor, puzzles, and riddles. The logical-mathematical intelligence is the use o...

5. What is the Theory of Multiple Intelligences? Part 2: Cultural Influence
Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences developed as he worked with brain injured adults and autistic children. He identified distinct portions of the brain that control specific human abilities or talents like analysis, classification, speech, self-awareness, etc. He has identified eight distinct abilities that he refers to as "intelligences": verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and the naturalist. In addition to the biological basis for these intelligences, Gardner also places great emphasis on cultural influences that may impact the development of each intelligence. Culture determines what parents and schools will teach their children based on the...

6. A Mom's Fascination With Face Painting
As the mom of a three and a five year old, I've been to many school events, community festivals and charity functions where the face painting booth, no matter what else was going on, was the star attraction. So I began to wonder, why is it that face painting booths are so popular? Attention - All children crave attention. Come to think of it, most adults do too. When a child is sitting in the chair, the face painter is completely focused on that child. You can just see how special that child feels at that moment. Creativity - Any kind of painting is an expression of creativity. When kids choose the design they wish to have painted on their face, they take command of their own creativity and self-expression. Individ...

7. The Real Facts About Your Child's IQ
Parents may be surprised to discover the following facts about IQ and IQ testing. 1. IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient. But it is debatable whether IQ tests really measure intelligence (or whatever it is we mean by "intelligence" - psychologists have been divided for years). IQ tests do not take into account aspects such as creativity, artistic or musical talent - a child can most certainly be "gifted" without having a high IQ. Nor do IQ tests take into account qualities such as leadership which will have a huge impact on the child's life. They cannot be taken as any kind of indicator of success in future life. It is dubious as to whether IQ scores have any real value of their own outside the educational system. ...

8. Relate With Your Teen and Gain Their Trust
We were all teens at one time for some many years ago even if we don't like to admit it. Many of us can look back and say our teen years were good, but with many ups and downs as we approached adulthood. Some of us maybe were lucky enough to have parents we could talk to about anything with ease. Today's teens deal with many of the same issues, but also deal with some very difficult issues that are more prevalent in today's youth. Your teen will need guidance and most likely seek advice. As parents we need to help insure that our teens will come to us with most of these issues. We need to create an atmosphere that will encourage our teens to turn to us. It can be quite a task to get your teen to open up and I found with my teenage...

9. Spend Time Not Money With The Kids This Winter
Spending quality time with your children doesn?t need to cost a lot of money. What?s most important, is that you take the opportunity to bond with them. The time that you spend with your children will make them feel special and they will treasure it for a lifetime. Letting your children know that you are there for them, will create a lasting bond between you and your children. The winter months can be rather dull for children since they are cooped up in the house more than they would like to be. This is a great time for you to let your children know you feel their discomfort by giving them some one on one attention from mom. It doesn't require a great deal of money to make those boring winter days stuck indoors special. One s...

Scholarship Search Engine Getting scholarships for college is not the hard part – but actually going out and finding scholarships that fit your requirements is!
